Texas A&M Running Backs Among Nation's Top Performers
College Football's Top Offensive Player to be Named in January
Texas A&M running backs Devon Achane and Le'Veon Moss earned honorable mention recognition on Tuesday from the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, given annually to the nation’s top offensive player with ties to the state of Texas. A total of 13 players received honorable mention recognition.
Currently on the midseason watch list for the award, Achane and Moss have helped spearhead an Aggie offense that ranks among the nation’s Top 20 in scoring offense (18th, 38.7 ppg) and total offense (16th, 498.7 ypg) and Top 10 in rushing offense (5th, 254.9 ypg).
Achane, the reigning SEC Offensive Player of the Year, leads the Aggies and ranks fifth in the SEC with 790 rushing yards this season. The junior from Fort Bend, Texas, also leads the SEC and ranks third nationally with 12 rushing touchdowns. Achane ranks among the Top 10 in the SEC in all-purpose yards (6th, 1,139), scoring (8th, 78.0 ppg), scrimmage yards per game (9th, 126.6) and kickoff return average (9th, 23.0).
Moss, a junior from Belton, Texas, has rushed for 504 yards this season, 5th best on the team, while adding 5 touchdowns. He ranks 10th in the SEC in yards per carry (6.0) and 14th in rushing touchdowns. Moss is also a threat in the passing game, with 12 receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown.
Campbell was a two-time All-America selection at Texas who went on to earn NFL Rookie of the Year and NFL MVP honors with the New Orleans Saints. He is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Jackson’s inclusion on the honorable mention list marked the third consecutive year a Bear has received recognition from the organization. Running back Jalen Hurd was named a semifinalist for the award in 2020 while Bryce Young was a finalist and the eventual winner of the award in 2021.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award is presented by the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce and the SPORTyler organization and is the only major college football award with both a regional and national focus.
The winner of the 2022 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award will be announced live on Jan. 10, 2023, at the Tyler Rose Award Banquet in Tyler, Texas.
